Vaporwave is a genre of art that has been among the background of the internet for the past ten odd years. Its visuals have a distinct style of faded hues, namely pink and blue resembling 80's and 90's consumer design.

The music is a mix of sampling and new-wave electro. But the 'philosophy' of Vaporwave has significant depth to it. The music, and art, are designed with the motive to give the audience a sense of nostalgia to an undefined point in time.

The genre is made up of constant references to consumerism and capatalism with names like "Saint Pepsi," "Going to the Mall" and many references to early versions of Macintosh and Microsoft Windows.

Vaporwave is representative of the line between physical reality and the fabricated reality that exists in computers, advertisements and the internet. It is a vague celebration and critique of the unexpected overstimulation we recieve as a result of how integrated we are with technology. I think that there is purposefully no specific message with Vaporwave, rather just a blurry depiction of what its like to be within this strange cybernetic world we now live in.
